The Winter Tales auction from 3 to 5 December once again brings you a varied and interesting offer.

Rik Poot. Falling horse, 1986. Est.: € 8000-12000

The catalogue spans the centuries, with a special emphasis within the ‘Art & Antiques’ section on paintings, sculptures and objects from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods, as well as a selection of jewellery that will be on offer. Work on Paper will range from old book bindings (including a beautiful ‘Antiphonarium’ from the first half of the 16th century in excellent condition) to twentieth-century drawings and prints.

Some of the highlights of these catalogues: a compact but expressive painting of woman and child in a wheat field by Emile Claus, by the same hand also an expressive landscape at dusk, a more subdued landscape by Valerius De Saedeleer, a back-glass painting by Floris Jespers with an endearing depiction of a clown in love or another clown sitting by a tree and a Chiparus group with playing children. Among ‘the moderns’ we cite the ‘cart’ in mixed media by Roger Raveel, dated 1978, in addition to several paintings by the unconventional Aldo Mondino, several sculptures by Rik Poot, a large assemblage by Jan Fabre including wood, iron and jewellery beetles, to an oil painting on panel by Gideon Kiefer.

Michelangelo Pistoletto. 'Attesa n. 8', 1962-73. Est.: € 100000-120000

Regarding the Works on Paper sessions, we draw your attention in particular to a magnificent and extensive screen print on mirror plate by Michelangelo Pistoletto. A large pencil, charcoal and ink drawing by Michaël Borremans also stands out, but the graphic works by Luc Tuymans, Panamarenko, Pieter Vermeersch, Fred Bervoets, Marthe Wery, Willem De Kooning, Keith Haring, among others, are also likely to attract many bidders. Among the original drawings, it is mainly our compatriots who will do us the honours, ranging from James Ensor to Eugeen van Mieghem, Rik Wouters, Pierre Alechinsky, Leon Spilliaert, Constant Permeke, Paul Joostens, Maurice Wyckaert and René Heyvaert, to name but a few.
